A focus on responsibility. The rebranding of Houliving to Human Living.

It has always seemed silly to us that the real estate industry, an industry centered around the home, had become so far disconnected from the communities it served. When we started this company, we dove in with the hope of transforming the home buying and selling experience from something daunting, convoluted, and transactional to something more inclusive, more supportive, and more communal.

We started by showcasing the neighborhoods in our area, celebrating the people, businesses, public spaces, and cultural nuances that made them each special. From there, we prioritized customer service, ensuring that each of our clients began the next chapter in their lives feeling confident in their choices and inspired by their own potential.

As we looked into the future of our company, we had growth on our minds — not necessarily to satisfy any dreams of grandeur, but to help others realize their own dreams. What we quickly came to realize was, well, easier said than done. While we were caught up in growth models and social stats, we forgot to ask ourselves how our business was impacting these communities, if at all, and whether our efforts were truly changing their landscapes and lives for the better.

We took a step back — several steps back — and reassessed. We spoke to our previous clients to gain whatever insights we could from their experiences working with us. We looked to other businesses whose values were in line with our own for inspiration and guidance. What we found was that in order to lead responsibly within our industry, we’d have to feel that responsibility both individually and collectively. It would have to be built into our business model so deeply that it was virtually inseparable from our day-to-day operations and customer interactions. It meant that we’d have to integrate ourselves within these communities rather than operate from outside of them.

Practically speaking, our goal is always profitability, because without that, we would have few resources with which to run our business or to contribute to the causes we believe in. Our causes celebrate and promote sustainable living, social equity, and environmental responsibility at all levels of life and business. By creating shared value between our clients, our employees, our communities, and our planet, we are able to do the work we love in a way that is mutually beneficial and inspiring to all parties.

We have a passion and appreciation for the values of a strong community, a place where like-minded but diverse people can come together in a way that benefits the individuals as well as the whole they comprise. Our responsibility is to promote, protect, and preserve these spaces

Whether it’s supporting local businesses or organizing environmental restorations; our convictions, commitments, character, and attitudes are best summed up by our respect for, and trust in a collection of humans driven by the same values.

It is our belief that we are all responsible for maintaining and perfecting communities that truly work for its people.

Give Back Initiative:

At Human Living, our mission has always been to promote the values of a strong community, one that serves not only the interests of the whole but also the interests of the wonderfully diverse individuals that comprise that whole. We do this through education and advocation of community ideals, along with organizing volunteers and activating support regarding community-focused initiatives. Human Living contributes 5% of its profits to help fund vital projects within the communities we serve.
